This is an overview of the Drawing tutorial course that I taught from 1998 to 2006 as an assistant, and from 2006 to 2012 as assistant professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. It covers the period between 2008 and 2012.

Drawing is technically simplest, but most efficient and most effective procedure in visual arts. It directly engages and clearly reflects the artist’s ability to establish and control the relations between perception, observation, reflection, evaluation and materialization. Drawing requires and promotes the skills of conceptualization and abstraction, which provide the creative and personal insight in various contexts. This makes it a key poetic factor in visual arts.

Taking these premises, I developed the class program toward technical, methodological and discoursive expansion of the drawing experience, combining it with the inducement of experimental and research-oriented art production. The program included practical work, lectures, workshops and consultations, and was modified actively throughout each semester.

An important element of my teaching philosophy is the gallery presentation of new and emerging student projects, selected and set up according to the clearly defined curatorial criteria and concepts. Between 2009 and 2012 I curated three exhibitions in DKSG Gallery, a series of micro-exhibitions and a review exhibition in Göthe-Institut in Belgrade. The participation in preparing and promoting the exhibitions, the contacts with cultural institutions, the exposure to the professional critique and public reactions, helped many students in emancipating, reflecting, positioning and evaluating their artistic identities within the context of contemporary art.

The alumni of this program include Vladimir Todorović, Slavica Panić, Ivan Grubanov, Veljko Onjin, Ana Nedeljković, Damjan Kovačević, Jelena Vitorović, Ana Banduka, Ana Marković, Aleksandra Kovačević and Jelena Nikolić, as well as Nemanja Nikolić, Isidora Krstić, Nina Ivanović and Nataša Stojanović who had initiated and run the art space U10 in Belgrade since 2012 godine.
